Here are some of our favourite and least-favourite dinners featured in some of our favourite PlayStation games…
Heavy Rain
Microwave meals have rarely looked more depressing than in David Cage’s interactive drama. Tasked with feeding his son on a dreary school night, Ethan can make Shaun a healthy dinner, or the world’s saddest microwave pizza. Who doesn’t want a soggy pepperoni pie?
Final Fantasy XV
Square Enix goes all-out when it comes to treating Noctis to satisfying food. Not only are dishes like the Fired Frontier Skewer so temping you will want to lick your screen, but Ignis can cook over 100 recipes when the group makes camp.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
After Nate messes about in the attic during the ‘A Normal Life’ chapter, he crashes on the couch to eat a sweetcorn-stuffed stir fry with Elena. Between bites, Drake’s mind drifts as he stares at a painting. The adventurer’s concentration might be shot, but at least he is getting his five a day.
Hitman 2
On a Summer’s evening, nothing beats a barbecue. If you are after a truly killer digital dinner, disguise 47 as a caterer during Hitman 2’s Whittleton Creek mission. As you wait to off an elderly invalid, you are given the chance to poison his head of security with dodgy chips.
Resident Evil 7
The diabolical Baker family serve Ethan a sit-down dinner that is so disgusting, it would take iron intestines to digest it properly. Marguerite’s banquet of horrors is heavy on offal and other squishy monstrosities. Mercifully, the meal is cut short when Jack mutilates the hero.
Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds
PUBG’s elusive poultry only presents itself if you outlast another 99 players. Win one of the battle royale’s horribly tense matches and a protein-rich dinner is yours. Just be sure to check your chicken dinner hasn’t accidentally been riddled with bullets.
Monster Hunter: World
Capcom’s beast-basher makes high-protein, extra-beefy platters look ludicrously delicious. Whether you are chowing down at the canteen in Astera as a bunch of Palicos cook up a storm, or roasting your own chicken out in the field, dinner is meatily moreish in Monster Hunter: World.
Yakuza O
You can often find Kaz replenishing his health with a tasty late-night supper. The fictional Kamurocho district has plenty of little bistros and diners offering players of steak, delicately prepared vegetables or some fried octopus balls.
Spider-Man
Early on in the wall-crawler’s adventure, Peter takes a break from web-slinging to snack on some fries with MJ at a diner. As the pair pick away at their chips, they reminisce about their relationship, questioning why they broke up. Right after Pete leaves, Stan Lee makes a charming cameo as a short-order cook.
