Build A Minecraft Holiday Resort
It is summer, and that means time for holidays! Even if you don’t have big holiday plans in real life, you can build your ideal holiday resort in Minecraft!
Choose a Site
To start building your park, first you have to choose a good site. We recommend looking for a temperate biome – somewhere not too hot, not too cold, like grass plains or savanna. After all, you don’t want to spend all your time in a frozen wasteland or halfway up a mountain! Make sure the area you choose is next to the ocean or a lake, and that is it nice and safe, so you don’t end up falling into a ravine or find mobs crawling out a nearby cave. Once you have picked a site, clear out the grass and flatten an area.
Build Accommodation
The essence of any holiday park is the accommodation. We are going to build some small chalets – one or two-person rooms big enough to contain a bed, chest and crafting table, as well as some lighting. An independent door to the outside and a window to look out of are both must-haves. After all, this isn’t a hotel we are putting together here! When you are decorating the interior of the room, keep it fairly simple. We have gone with stripped bark for the floors, some red carpet to act as a doormat, a nice pair of green beds for extra sleeping space, and a single painting on the wall. Storage chest and crafting facilities are provided, while a lantern provides the light.
The Beach
There is plenty to enjoy on a natural beach, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to make it a little more fun for your holiday park guests. After all, aren’t there plenty of natural beaches around anyway? This one is a special beach, designed specifically for the relaxation and enjoyment of your holidaymakers. To start with, clear and flatten the ground, and maybe even expand the beach a little. Now lay down some towels using a couple of carpet tiles. Don’t lay them down too evenly – stagger where they are placed, otherwise it will look a bit too artificial. Remember to make them face the water. You may or may not be aware that beaches use flags to indicate where it is safe to enter the water. Minecraft doesn’t quite have flags, but you can hang green banners at either end of your relaxation area so people visiting can see where the safe area is. They are just four banners in green, hung from a tall fencepost, with a matching carpet tile on top. You can also add some beach huts for changing into your bathing suit and some showers for when people are done in the water. It is hard to make a working shower area, but you can make one that looks pretty good by placing tripwire hooks with buttons beneath them, and a shallow pool of water at the base.
Resort Restaurant
No one wants to cook for themselves on holiday, so having some kind of eating facility on-site is a definite requirement. Make your restaurant large and stand alone, with huge windows gazing out over the water and surrounding landscape for some truly relaxed eating. What actually goes into the restaurant is up to you, but maybe include a bar for serving drinks and food, with a table and benches for sitting at. A fun way to add some activity to your holiday park is to add an NPC bartender, so spawn a villager behind the bar, then if you are in Creative mode place some barrier blocks so they cannot get out (you can use a console command “/give @p barrier 64” to put them in your inventory). You could also add a villager diner!
Swimming Pool
A swimming pool for people to relax and exercise in is found at most holiday resorts. It doesn’t have to be huge, but we recommend putting one nice and close to the action. The chalets could look out directly onto the area where the pool is. The pool itself is a pit two blocks deep. You can line it with prismarine tiles, which gives it a great ocean-like feel. Lighting keeps the pool safe at night and gives it a cool glow, so you could embed sea lanterns in the floor. You can put them in the walls if you like! Filling the pool with water is fairly simple – just add water source blocks close to each other and the algorithm that creates running water will do the rest.
